Summary
The Galactic Alliance is dying. The Jedi Temple on Coruscant is destroyed. Darth Krayt, Lord of the Sith, has forged an alliance with the newly reformed Empire and his plans to reshape the galaxy are underway. Next stop: the Jedi Academy on Ossus.
On Ossus, Kol Skywalker and his son Cade fight off the legions of Sith alongside Shado Vao (Kol's Padawan) and Wolf Sazen (Cade's Master). After Cade and Shado are sent to protect the escaping younglings, Wolf is beaten by a Sith and Kol is left alone. Cade returns to his father's side, but he is rebuked and ordered back.
Back on the ship, Cade enraged at his master's death, uses the Force to revive him only to watch as his father is killed. They come under attack and Cade heads out alone to defend the shuttle as it jumps to lightspeed. Wolf can feel the Dark Side in Cade. In the battle, Cade's ship is destroyed, but Wolf feels he is alive. Still, he knows they must protect the younglings and they leave with a promise to find him.
On the Imperial capital of Coruscant, Emperor Roan Fel learns of the Jedi defeat. Darth Krayt and other Sith arrive and kill him as well as all who oppose him and declares himself the new Emperor! Grand Admiral Morlish agrees to serve him although he had expected to be named Emperor himself.
Krayt lashes out at Darth Maladi and tells her Fel was a double and the real Fel was a trained Jedi that must have sensed the attack. After he sends them away to hunt Jedi, he tells an aid that his body is failing him, but he cannot return to a state of stasis and must continue to fight off the thing that threatens to take over his body. He felt Cade's healing use of the Force and vows to find him.
