Summary

Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan interrupt an assassination attempt of Baroness Omnino on Coruscant. She, however, dislikes Jedi and had asked that none be present. Qui-Gon was present when her husband died and she blames him. Despite this she chooses Qui-Gon to be her protector during her stay. Her reasons are unknown, but Obi-Wan thinks she has a crush on Qui-Gon.

As the Baroness awaits her brothers arrival, a distress call is received from his ship. Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan leave to investigate.

After boarding the ship, they find the entire crew including the Baron, has been killed by two savrip beasts that were on board. One is dead and they are attacked and kill the other. The beasts live on Ord Mantell so the Jedi head there to investigate.

Once there they learn that the ship had docked at a moisture plant. When they enter the plant the realize they are trapped inside and surrounded by droids!

-----

The owner of the plant, Orin Bold, along with his daughter arrives and stops the droid attack. He tells them of corruption on the planet by someone named Taxer Sundown. His daughter, Nella, agrees to take them to him.

It turns out Sundown claims to be Jedi. He came to the planet and took over the operations of it many years ago. Once they arrive the are contacted by Sundown via hologram. He threatens them and turns an army of lightsaber wielding attackers loose on them. During the fight, Nella is kidnapped and taken to Sundown's base.

As they near the base, the run into what's left after another savrip attack.

-----

They question a pilot and learn that Sundown has headed back the moisture farm and then plans to leave the planet. Obi-Wan follows the trail and Qui-Gon follows the savrips tracks.

Qui-Gon finds Nella who says the savrips saved her from Sundown! The savrips can actually speak. They say they have been blamed for all of Sundown's murders and wish revenge on him. They join Qui-Gon and Nella in their search.

Obi-Wan returns to the farm and overhears sundown revealing all his secrets to Orin Bold. Obi-Wan enters but is attacked by the droids. He stops many of them, but Sundown is able to escape.

As Sundown attacks Qui-Gon, Nella, and the savrips, Obi-Wan flies in and destroys his ship. Just then the Baroness arrives. Qui-Gon realizes that set this up to seek revenge on Qui-Gon for her husband. Here civilization has been breeding savrips for food! She has also kidnapped Chancellor Valorum and forced him into allowing them into the Republic. Qui-Gon says that he wishes to join her fight, she is caught off guard and he kills her.

Comments

Like the previous Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan adventure, a mystery is the central theme of the series. This one work much better for me than The Aurorient Express.

The chase element kept the story moving, not to mention having Obi-Wan being a bit older helped for me as well.(although he seemed older than the timeline states)

Some nice Jedi teachings as well.
