Summary

The Emperor is continuing with his plan to eliminate all opposition to his rise to power. With no new tasks, Darth Vader is growing impatient.

On New Plympto, Jedi Dass Jennir is leading a fruitless defense of the former Separist planet that has taken him in. An evacuation is underway! Bomo Greenback watches his wife and child leave on a transport as he stays to fight and buy them more time.

Bomo and Jennir unite but are blasted into an enormous hole. The rest of the fighters surrender, but are still killed by the Clonetroopers.

Word of the success reaches Clone Commander Vill. He begins to ponder what will become of the Clones when the war is over.

The next morning Bomo and Jennir climb out to safety. They head for Cadgel Meadows in hopes of reuniting with the evacuees, but all the ships are still in port. They learn from Captain Schurk-Heren and his crew that all the refugees were captured and will sold as slaves!

-----

Lord Vader's uneasiness continues.. He contacts the troops on New Plympto and learns that their ship has taken all the women and younglings off to be sold as slaves. Vader has a brief flashback to his childhood.

Bomo and Jennir receive bad news that the Imperials are searching every ship in port. The smugglers along with their two new passengers discuss ways to escape. One plan calls for all ships to take off at once so at least some survive.

Jennir attacks a Clonetropper and uses his suit as a disguise to steal an Imperial ship. He flies the ship into port and opens fire on one of the ships that would remain loyal to the Empire. The call goes out to the other ships that the troopers will be destroying all vessels in port.

After fighting their way off the surface the group rejoins in space. They discuss their destination, Orvax IV, a horrible place where slaves are sold and traded. Jennir does his best to console Bomo, but his own fears are also coming through.

-----

Darth Vader presses Sidious about the slavery going on, but the Emperor tells him it is only a temporary arrangement.

Enroute to Orvax IV, several members of the crew discuss whether their passengers are indeed who they say they are. They also wonder if they know about the cargo they are carrying.

At the same time, Jennir tells Bomo to be weary as he doesn't trust the motives of their new partners. As they discuss the plan, however, several crew members pledge their support of the plan to save Bomo's family.

They land on the planet and take in the depth of their task. After Mezgraf helps calm a runaway beast he is thought to be an escaped slave because of a tattoo he has. Jennir uses a Jedi mind trick and gets them out of the jam.

Bomo finds several prisoners from his world, but is interrupted by several guards. They are able to kill the guards, but learn the that his daugher Resa has already been taken and his wife was killed trying to prevent them from from taking her!

-----

Jennir decides to go after Bomo's daugher alone since having a group will draw too much attention.

At New Plympto, Clone Commanders Vill and Appo receive information on their next mission to Murkhana.

Jennir tracks the slaver Orso Meeto to his home and learns that Resa was sold to Dezono Qua. Fearing he will be reported, he makes a fateful decision to kill Meeto in cold blood and make his escape from his guards.

He returns to the ship and they head for Esseles.

-----

As Vader nears Merkhana, he learns from Sidious that several Clone troopers there refused to comply with Order 66 and he is sending Vader there to teach them a lesson.

When Jennir returns with news of Resa's location, all the crew members reaffirm their intention to see the rescue mission through.

The rescuers storm Qua's fortress and split up to search for Resa, but when the reach Qua he tells them it's too late. He's killed and eaten her! Jennir kills him, but Bomo is enraged that he was not able to do it himself.

As the group departs the planet, Jennir stays behind hoping one day to atone for his mistakes.

Comments

The chase for separated family is a familiar one in the Star Wars world, but I suppose during this period in history it was more common than at any other point.

Jennir and Bomo made a good combination and I hope to see more of Jennir in future installments.

Bomo's depressing family tragedy was tough (daughter eaten?!).

Overall, it was a good read.
